‘The Beast Before ©’ is a twenty stanza narrative poem by Amelia Whateley. Made up of rhyming couplets paired into four line stanzas, the poem features a young girl ‘Wren’ and her cat ‘Shadow’ and explores Shadow’s journey to becoming the beast of the moor. The poem explores themes of wild nature and conservation as well as elements of dartmoor folktales such as: The Beast of the Moor and Datrmoor Pixies.
